What is a STEM Ambassador?

STEM Ambassador Position

The STEM Ambassador position is an integral part of the CS Pathways program in the School of Computer Science. This position is a perfect fit for someone looking to take a first step in their career to work with youth in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education setting. Our goal is to be the premier agency for youth who have an interest in STEM programs. With the No. 1 priority being their work with the kids during

program hours, the person who fills this position will also be responsible for the items listed below.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities during summer programming.
  • Use STEM resources and curricula to achieve general goals of STEM literacy, excitement, and engagement.
  • Co-create and design engaging STEM-focused curriculum through feedback, iteration, and execution.
  • Plan and implement quality programs for youth that encourage participation from all members
  • Provide mentorship, leadership, and role modeling for members
  • Collaborate with and inspire youth, adults, and volunteers in the creative process
  • Teach the curriculum for 40-minute rotations with multiple groups of youth. Adapt the activities to be developmentally appropriate.
  • Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by site directors, leadership, and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 14 years old at time of application.
  • Valid work permit for individuals under the age of 18.
  • Child Protection Clearances will be required for all individuals. 
  • Be able to attend a minimum of 12 hours of training per year.

  • Attending high school and in good standing
  • Must possess excellent leadership, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with youth, adults, and volunteers
  • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Zoom.
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and typing. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.

Early 2026: Go through our application process

  • Fill out our online application
  • Interview with us
  • Retrieve your work permit
  • Acquire your child protection clearances
  • Complete your onboarding tasks with HR (i.e. Human Resources)

Spring 2026: Paid Training

Complete online, paid training throughout the Spring and attend our final training in person before the summer starts.

Summer 2026: Work at a partner site

Work with the youth at your partner site throughout the summer. Hours and dates vary from site to site.

August 2026: Celebrate

You did it! Celebrate all of your hard work this summer with your fellow ambassadors at an end of program celebration.

Fall 2026: Work at one of our year-long sites (limited positions available)

Some of our partner sites employ STEM Ambassadors throughout the year. Ambassadors will be a given an opportunity to indicate interest in working through the school year towards the end of summer.
